Although we all live in the modern age, most still put trust in God, his powers and the destiny! At the same time, we also believe in fortune telling and channeling, at least a bit. But, does Christianity approve of this? What does the Bible say about mediums and fortune tellers? Keep reading to learn more information about this matter right now!
You can not be the one who has a great faith in fortune telling and channeling. Yet, humans have a curious mind. That is why they try to play the horoscope column, even if it is just for fun! When it comes to fortune telling, it is not limited to zodiac signs only. There are many methods relating this art, such as horoscopes, crystal balls, tarot card reading, kabala, palm reading, astrology, numerology, mirror mantic, Ouija boards, clairvoyance, and telepathy. In addition, the art of predicting the future, worshiping the stars and planets, answering futuristic questions by connecting to spirits, and reading cards to discover the future are also what fortune telling is all about!
How about channeling? This method is done to communicate with the world of spirits that has existed since antiquity. Many modern channelers learn the art by the practice of meditation. At that time, this mildly altered state of consciousness does allow the channelers to psychically get spirit messages. Talented mediums are able to enter into a trance state whereby the spirit directly takes control over the readers’ voice.
Although the future is designed by God, retrieving the destiny and future in advance is not the consent of the Deity. According to the Bible, predicting the future and channeling are indeed “sin.” These are formidable acts which are God. So, for those who practice these methods, God will turn his back on them.
Take a closer look at what the Bible say about fortune tellers and mediums
As mentioned above, the Bible never supports any type of spirituality, whether it is astrology, fortune telling or channeling. The reason is that it challenges the faith of followers in God and his power. There is nothing on Earth, which defines the one’s future. Instead, it is the Almighty God who leads a person into his future. Through revealing the future beforehand, a person seems to shows the weaker side of faith, self-confidence, self-esteem and efforts.
Although fortune tellers and mediums claim to reveal the future designed by the Lord, the Bible does not state so. As per the Bible, these readers are not disciples of God. He detests the art of fortune telling and mediumship. Prophets and servants aim to bring people close to God without revealing the future. So, the Bible advises those who wish to be blessed by God to fight against such acts. This can be clearly seen in Leviticus chapter 20:6 as below:
"And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people."
Furthermore, magic and witchcraft are also considered the path of sin. And those who practice these methods will be steered clear of God. The Bible warns readers who practice astrology and mediumship by any means. Their acts just go against God and will not have a place in the kingdom of God. This may be found in Revelation chapter 21:8 as follow:
"But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."
According to the Bible, these practices tend to make use of evil spirits, demonic powers, and “uncanny power.” Psychics are thirsty for money than for showing off their gifts. That is described in Act 16: 16-19. The Bible also considers that consulting spirits of the departed and demons for truth and support is an act of deceit to the God Almighty. Instead, it is highly advisable to turn to the Lord for vision and help. The Holy Scripture also mentions of the death of King Saul, because of consulting a spirit for assistance.
The advice on believing in God and staying away from spiritual methods can be found in Leviticus Chapter 19: 31 as follow:
"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God."
Mediums and fortune tellers have no sight of the future. So, those who have followed this are encouraged to confess this and accept the power and path of the Lord. Put a strong trust in Him and his powers of writing destiny and fate for everyone in the Universe. The Scripture also mentions that people should openly confess about these practices and burn all which they use as medium for these acts.
Although the Bible advises humans not to follow the path of mediumship and fortune telling, most types of readers (like psychics, mediums, fortune tellers, and so on) still have a great faith in God. For them, serving the Lord is a meaningful part of their lives. In addition, their aim is also to help people find comfort and closure after the death of their loved ones or know their future insights. Whatever they do, you sill get their help with ease!
Whether you are a Catholic or not, fortune telling and mediumship is not always the way God wants you to look for help from. Once a problem arises, He will be there to calm your worries by making sure that a good solution lies in your life path. As for those who follow Christianity, channeling, fortune telling, and astrology – practicing or following by any means – is yet another sin! These are what the Bible says about mediums and fortune tellers you should know if you tend to go church and practice your belief. There is no need to ask for assistance from these spiritual readers. Just believe that the Lord follows out footsteps and whatever we do!
