Why does a spiritual medium have to take time before reading somebody?
I have lately been interested how a medium “works”. I believe there is an afterlife, and that other people are more sensitive, or how do I some call it, like gifted, etc. I have never been to a psychic, or medium, or anybody in that field and lately I am just dying of curiosity to try one, to really see firsthand if they can really communicate with a loved one who has passed.
I searched online but usually you have to book for a reading. Some takes many weeks. Why? How about just dropping in? Do they do this on purpose and book a person many weeks ahead so they can maybe do some research on whoever wants a reading, so they can be more “believable” when facing that client?
Isn’t it that if a person really has this ability then you can do a reading anytime?

It might be so that they can do some research on you and it also might just be a marketing ploy, it seems more impressive if they are so busy and popular that they can make you wait for weeks and charge you a huge fee for their services.
How mediums work is already well know, aside from actually looking up information about you they use a technique called cold reading.
It seems that one psychics and mediums make a name for themselves they can say any old rubbish and people will still buy it, Sylvia Browne makes her customs wait months and charges $ 700 for a phone call – and check out this site to see how amazingly wrong she has been about pretty well everything.

You can “believe” all you want but all that belief is not evidence of proof. Obvious you do question though, which is what you should be doing. How do you choose a medium? Just based on their say so?
There is a million dollars saying it can’t be done.
The James Randi Educational Foundation offers a one-million-dollar prize to anyone who can show, under proper observing conditions, evidence of any paranormal, supernatural, or occult power or event. The JREF does not involve itself in the testing procedure, other than helping to design the protocol and approving the conditions under which a test will take place. All tests are designed with the participation and approval of the applicant. In most cases, the applicant will be asked to perform a relatively simple preliminary test of the claim, which if successful, will be followed by the formal test. Preliminary tests are usually conducted by associates of the JREF at the site where the applicant lives. Upon success in the preliminary testing process, the “applicant” becomes a “claimant.”
The Challenge has been offered for over ten years. To date, no one has passed the preliminary tests.
When this is won, that will count as proof. Until then there are no spiritual mediums. Only people that take money from the gullible believers.

Why someone takes weeks depends on a variety of things. A good quality medium will likely have a lot of clients and therefore their time legitimately books up quickly.
You also need to consider that most people don’t do this work full time. They have a designated amount of time to meet with people as most have other responsibilities or jobs to schedule.
As far as the actual medium work, no they don’t need weeks to prepare. a few minutes to calm and center themselves should be enough.
As far as research is concerned, unless you are asking about someone famous – there would be limited Information that could be acquired by research that would be of interest to the questioner. So I doubt that any would bother with that route.
I hope that helps. 🙂
I wanted to add that yes, some may not accept appointments earlier to appear that they are busier then they are. But I find that to be a flawed marketing venture. Most people who want to meet with a medium will just go search out another medium if the first isn’t available. Unless they have their heart set on one particular person, there is no need to wait.
